UPDATE & ACTION ITEM: Invitation to August 24th Press Conference at the National Archives at San Francisco

Congressman Kevin Mullin (CA-17, home to the National Archives at San Francisco or NARA-SF) and his colleagues will be holding a press conference on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 10 AM, outside the archives facility, located in the Leo J. Ryan Memorial Federal Building (1000 Commodore Drive, San Bruno, CA; Google Maps link.) He will announce actions to stop the closure of NARA-SF. Read Congressman Mullin’s announcement here and read this letter written by a coalition of federal lawmakers to the National Archives.

The team from Save OUR National Archives (SONA) will be there, and we are asking as many supporters as possible to attend the press conference. With our presence, we will call for decisive action to keep NARA-SF and NARA-Chicago open, and for historical records to remain available to the public!

SONA has received more 200 copies of letters sent to the Acting Archivist of the United States and Congressional representatives, and more than 8,000 signatures to the change.org online petition. If you have not already made your voice heard, please sign the online petition, write to your Congressional representatives, or share your researcher statements and stories with us via email at SaveOurNationalArchives@gmail.com.
